What Is the CDCP?
The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) is a federal dental benefit program administered by Health Canada and Sun Life. Its goal is to make dental care more affordable for Canadians without private dental insurance by paying a portion of the costs for a wide range of preventive and restorative dental services.
It is not a free program — patients contribute a small co-payment based on their household income.

Who Can Apply for the CDCP?
You may qualify if you meet all of the following conditions:

- You and your spouse/common-law partner filed your latest tax return.
- Your adjusted family net income is less than $90,000.

How to Apply for CDCP Benefits
You can apply online, by phone, or in person. To Apply Online:

You’ll need:
- Your Social Insurance Number (SIN)
- Date of birth and mailing address
- Your latest Notice of Assessment (NOA) from CRA
- List of any government dental programs you’re enrolled in (if any)
What Happens After You Apply
Once approved, you’ll receive a welcome package from Sun Life containing:
- Your CDCP member ID card
- The date your coverage starts
- Instructions for using your benefits
Important: You can only use your CDCP coverage for appointments on or after your official start date.
